How to raise a Mensch - Ask Slovie

Ask Us Query:
When does Hashem starts testing people? Children need to learn how to behave but, many don't have good teachers. Do negative actions of children affect their "portait"?
Reply:
your question is most profound. We are put into this world by G-d with circumstances that are beyond our control- the family we are born into, the color of our eyes, if we are tall or short, wealthy or poor- there is only one thing that is in our hands:(our sages teach us that )how we act in life, if we live with values and awareness of G-D, that is the test of life. so, yes, we are each given our own, personal test from the moment we are born. It is our choice as to how we paint our personal portrait. True, there are some bad experiences that some children go through, with "not the best" teachers; but that is all part of that soul's life test. One of man's most painful moments is to confront oneself and realize that the portrait painted is incomplete, so much more could have been...the world could've been colored with so much more beauty and soul...let's try to make the most of each day & teach this life lesson to our children. best, slovie
